Speaking of Milestones
|
|
The Ridgewood Toastmasters Club has reached another milestone in its 51-year existence. The 64 members were recently recognized as one of the premier clubs in the area by the Toastmasters International organization, earning the President’s Distinguished Club Award for the second consecutive year. “That’s the highest level of achievement in the program,” said club President John Engeman. The Toastmasters Club helps members develop public speaking skills through delivering speeches to an audience. Another member evaluates the speaker and offers advice on what they need to improve in their presentation, while highlighting strong points. The club, which meets monthly in the Unitarian Society’s Fellowship Room, achieved nine goals that it set for its members. One goal was to have four members achieve a Competent Communicator (CC) designation, given after a member delivers 10 speeches. At last month’s meeting, Toastmaster and Ridgewood resident Gimia Ma accomplished her 10th speech, which appropriately focused on goal setting. |
