Better You, Better World
|
![]() In 1995 when I joined my first Toastmasters club, I had only one goal in mind. I wanted to learn to speak better English. Over the years, I learned many other things I did not expect. I learned more about myself – what I want and can do; I learned to communicate more clearly, coherently and enthusiastically; I learned that I am always leading even though I may not have a title; I learned that everything is possible if the right people and the right resources are engaged; I have learned that Toastmasters has gathered positive and capable people who help each other succeed. Toastmasters has made me a better person, and I am out there to help others in the world. My theme this year is, “Better You, Better World.” I challenge you to be 1% better tomorrow as Ed Tate, “The 2000 World’s Champion of Public Speaking” put it at our Spring Conference. I challenge you to make a better speech next time. I challenge you to deal with your spouse, children, co-workers, friends, and relatives more effectively and more pleasantly. I challenge you to be better than you think you are. I challenge you to be a positive influence on people you touch. I challenge you to achieve anything you want if you set your mind and heart to it. With these big goals and challenges in mind, let’s start with achievable actions. Will you sign up for a speech at the next meeting, ask an acquaintance to come to a Toastmasters event, participate in Tall Tale or Table Topics contest next month, talk to a friend about our program, and/or come to the District Fall Conference on November 14th? Will you be better and help your world to be a better place? If you answer yes to any of these, you already made yourself better today. I look forward to a better tomorrow and a better world because of you! |
